Active Investor Plus Visa Reaches NZ$5.15 Billion – Latest September 2026 Statistics

New Zealand's Active Investor Plus Visa has attracted approximately NZ$5.15 billion in committed and potential investment since the redesigned Growth and Balanced categories were introduced in April 2025.

The latest Immigration New Zealand statistics show 949 applications have been received, including 813 Growth applications and 136 Balanced applications. Of these, 496 have already been approved.

The figures demonstrate the substantial international interest generated by the revised Active Investor Plus programme.

Which Countries Are Active Investor Plus Applicants Coming From?

The United States is now the largest source country.

Immigration New Zealand reports:

• United States – 305 applications involving 924 people
• China – 180 applications involving 571 people
• Hong Kong – 121 applications involving 396 people
• Germany – 61 applications
• Taiwan – 49 applications
• Singapore – 37 applications
• Great Britain – 26 applications
• Vietnam – 26 applications
• South Korea – 22 applications
• Switzerland – 18 applications
• Japan – 17 applications

Altogether, the 949 applications represent 3,092 people.

Why Is the Growth Category So Popular?

Approximately 86% of applications received since April 2025 have selected Growth.

Growth requires a minimum NZ$5 million qualifying investment over three years.

Balanced requires at least NZ$10 million over five years and provides access to a broader range of acceptable investment classes.

The two categories have different investment characteristics and requirements, so the investment threshold alone should not determine which pathway is appropriate.

Where Is Active Investor Plus Capital Being Invested?

Immigration New Zealand's latest investment-type reporting shows managed funds have become particularly significant within Growth.

At the relevant reporting date, managed funds represented approximately 80% of committed Growth investment.

Within managed funds, private credit represented the largest allocation, followed by venture capital, private equity and other strategies.

For Balanced investors, bonds represented the largest investment category in the reported data.
